Teoxane Infraorbital Hollows Scale (TIOHS): Enhancing Aesthetic Assessment
At Teoxane, we recognize the crucial role of the infraorbital hollows (IOHs) in facial aesthetics, particularly in conveying emotions and influencing perceptions of age and vitality. These under-eye hollows, encompassing the tear trough and palpebromalar groove, are a common concern for patients seeking rejuvenation treatments.
To address the need for a standardized assessment tool, we developed the Teoxane Infraorbital Hollows Scale (TIOHS). This scale, meticulously crafted through a rigorous process involving real-subject photographs, aims to provide clinicians with a reliable method to evaluate and grade the severity of IOHs.
Our approach began with a diverse collection of photographs from over 200 volunteers, ensuring representation across various demographics, including age, ethnicity, and skin types. These images were crucial in creating a comprehensive scale that reflects the spectrum of IOH severity from minimal to very severe.
The scale's development was guided by a panel of board-certified experts who meticulously graded each photograph on a 5-point scale (ranging from None to Very Severe). This process not only ensured accuracy but also established the scale's validity in capturing subtle nuances in IOH presentation.
Intra-rater and inter-rater agreements are statistical calculations performed to validate the reliability, reproducibility, and repeatability of subjective evaluations using the scale. Excellent statistical scores for both intra-rater and inter-rater agreements have been achieved for the IOHS. These scores were obtained through live validations and photographic validations.
Moreover, the scale's ability to detect clinically meaningful differences further enhances its utility in assessing treatment outcomes objectively. This capability is crucial in aesthetic medicine, where precise evaluation tools are essential for optimizing patient satisfaction and treatment efficacy measurement.
In conclusion, the Teoxane Infraorbital Hollows Scale represents a significant advancement in aesthetic assessment tools. Its reliability, validated through comprehensive testing across diverse populations, positions it as a valuable resource for healthcare providers worldwide. By standardizing the evaluation of IOHs, the TIOHS supports our commitment to delivering natural-looking, rejuvenating outcomes that meet the expectations of both patients and practitioners.
